The Life of Steven Paul Longacre

December 3, 1958 – October 3, 2026

Our hearts are sadly broken by the sudden unexpected passing of a beloved brother and irreplaceable friend. But with hope in the Lord and his faith set in Christ, Steve’s own heart is alive and free forever. He was born in Fresno, California, on December 3, 1958, and shortly thereafter moved to Lindsay, California. Such a fun time in those early years of growing up in a smaller town with scuffed up knees, playing lots with friends, and running around. When he was ten years old, our family moved back to Fresno. He went thru school and played the support role in managing the cross country and baseball teams. After graduating from Hoover High School in 1977, he got his first job working at Red Carpet Car Wash. Not too long thereafter, he then began his future career – a medical technician of sorts - starting out at St. Agnes and finishing at Clovis Community Hospital. Twas a great network of friends and many doctors and nurses he enjoyed being around at both places. And they appreciated his efforts and were a part of his growth into the man he became thru disciplined work.

Steve’s lifelong driving passion and heart-felt desire has always been around baseball to some degree. But it wasn’t just the sport, it was the people who made it special….all of the players and various coaches whom he respected and loved. Those guys filled his cup, and his cup overflowed….and his life touched so many far and wide. Everyone loved good ole Swampy!

Steve was in the process of moving to Mesa, Arizona, when he suddenly died from his heart just giving out. He’d just bought his own place, a good home of his own, where he had hoped to take up roots and settle down. And though he didn’t ever make that final move to his new landing, he did receive the satisfaction of knowing it was his. A longtime fan of the Arizona Cardinals, along with some baseball players and coaches, mixed in with friends with welcoming arms were all waiting for him there.

Steve was such a good man – so fun-loving and big-hearted….willing to give and to help and serve wherever the need. Just a simple quiet guy, more than content to be in the background –supporting others and lifting them up by just being present. I’ve been so blessed and am so proud to be the pesky, little-sprout sister of this humble gentle giant of a man. And I am pleased and forever thankful, and so grateful and so glad, that each of you - and all of you - got to know him too.

Steve was predeceased by our parents, Paul and Margaret (Sally) Longacre, and is survived by his only sister, Jeanne Richards. Cremation services were provided by The Clovis Funeral Home, with a private interment in Modesto, California, to follow at a later time.
