Sergio
Silva
April 17, 1944 — May 8, 2024
Clovis
Sergio, 80 passed away peacefully surrounded by family at his Clovis, CA home on May 8, 2024. Sergio was a veteran who served in the Vietnam war. Sergio was born on April 17, 1944, in Juarez, Mexico to his parents Porfirio Silva and Roberta Macias. When he was just 18 after graduating from Merced High School, Sergio decided he wanted to join the Marines and was stationed in San Diego marine boot camp before going to Vietnam for 14 months. Sergio served in the Vietnam war as a Sergeant infantryman and then in embarkation. After 4 years of service, Sergio went on to become a police officer for the City of Madera for 6 years and then went to continue his law enforcement career at California State University from a patrolman, investigator, sergeant, Lieutenant, and then as acting Chief for a span period of 33 years. During his time at Fresno state, he met Maria Elena who he soon married in 1979 and Sergio chose to settle in the town of Clovis. Sergio served many years with the Latino Peace Officers association. When he wasn't working, Sergio had a passion for golf and helping out with Clovis Young Marines. Sergio and his wife Maria purchased Bead Central in Selma, California in April 2004. Sergio and Maria Elena worked together as a team in the bead store repairing jewelry and doing beadwork as well as running the retail store. Many customers enjoyed interacting with him because of his sense of humor as well as a man of many talents and a true hero when it came to handling difficult problems. Sergio was quick witted and sharp. A great sense of humor and truly a great friend and mentor to family members and those that touched his life. Sergio was predeceased by his father Porfirio Silva and mother Roberta Silva, an older brother Rosendo Silva. He is survived by his wife Maria Elena Silva, daughters Gina Santillan and Lesa Marie Sanchez, stepchildren Grace Rivas and Mark Rivas as well as 9 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren and brothers Jose Silva, Porfirio Silva, Robert Silva and sisters Rosa Garcia and Dolores Vasquez. The family requests that flowers be sent to Clovis Funeral Chapel or make a donation to American Cancer Society on his behalf. There will be a funeral service held at Clovis Funeral Chapel on Monday May 20 from 3 to 6 PM. Sergio will be buried at San Joaquin Memorial Cemetery in Santa Nella, Ca on May 21 Tuesday at 11:30
We are very grateful to everyone who has contributed to his life, legacy and has created wonderful memories with him. Sergio was a true hero to many and will be truly missed.
