Paul Kenny
Ratchford
January 27, 1945 — April 1, 2026
Tollhouse
Paul Kenny Ratchford, known to most simply as Kenny, a proud Navy veteran and longtime resident of Tollhouse, California, passed away peacefully on April 1, 2026, at the age of 81.
Born on January 27, 1945, Kenny lived a life grounded in service, strength, and a deep connection to his family, heritage, and community. He honorably served in the United States Navy, carrying that same sense of dedication and resilience throughout his life.
Early in life, Kenny was a local logger and later devoted more than 30 years of his career to the U.S. Department of Labor as a heavy equipment operator. He was known for his strong work ethic, reliability, and pride in a job well done—qualities that defined both his professional life and his character.
A tribal member of the Cold Springs Rancheria, Kenny maintained a meaningful connection to his roots and community. He was respected for his quiet strength and steady presence, leaving a lasting impression on those who knew him.
In his personal time, Kenny enjoyed the outdoors and the thrill of the hunt, especially elk and deer hunting. He was also an avid sports fan, faithfully following the St. Louis Cardinals in baseball and the Los Angeles Rams in football. In quieter moments, he found enjoyment in playing slot machines, embracing the fun and excitement they brought.
Kenny was preceded in death by his grandmother, Georgia George; his father, Earl Ratchford; his mother, Fern Ratchford; his brother Danny Ratchford; his daughter, Jill Ratchford; and his son, Travis Coleman.
He is survived by his loving wife, Judy Ratchford; his son, Shane Ratchford; his sister, Sandy Jackson; his grandchildren, Kayleigh Ratchford, Gage Ratchford, and Brett Ratchford; and his great-grandchildren, Jill Jones and Gloriana Jones. His legacy lives on through his family and the many lives he touched.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers who provided Kenny with compassion, friendship, and exceptional care, including the dedicated teams at the VA and his in-home nursing providers. Their kindness and support brought comfort to both Kenny and his loved ones.
Family and friends are invited to honor Kenny's life at a visitation service on Thursday, April 23, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Clovis Funeral Chapel. A graveside service will be held on Friday, April 24, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Tollhouse Cemetery.
Paul "Kenny" Ratchford will be remembered for his service, his strength, and the enduring mark he left on his family, his community, and the foothill life he cherished.
