Martha Hernandez
Garcia
January 1, 1937 — March 16, 2026
Fresno
We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our beloved mother, Martha Hernandez Garcia, on Monday, March 16, 2026. She passed away peacefully into the arms of the Lord, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on January 1, 1937, Martha was the second of nine children. A challenging childhood in Mercedes, Texas gave her the resilience and determination to create a stable home built on faith and love. It was love at first sight when she met Ramon Garcia, Jr. and they were married for 52 wonderful years. Together they built a secure loving home filled with laughter, play and music. They attended church and had Sunday tacos together with their five daughters Esmeralda, Lucinda, Mary, Rebecca, and Elisa.
Martha ran her household with diligence, discipline, and attention to detail; from budgeting to sewing clothes for her children, to making fresh tortillas every day for dinner. A devout Christian, Martha enjoyed singing and listening to hymns and absolutely loved when her family sang and played instruments, filling the house with melodies of faith. In fact, she delighted in the presence of her family whether it was at home or at any of her favorite places like Yosemite, Carmel, or Disneyland.
In her later years, Martha primarily lived with Rebecca and her family. Martha was just under five feet in stature; every inch a feisty, protective force of nature. She loved piping hot coffee, French pastries, a variety of music and classic movies. She took pride in her daughters, instilling in them hope, self-advocacy, and the importance of faith, honor and veracity.
She is preceded in death by her husband Ramon Garcia Jr., her daughter Mary Ramirez, her sister Aurora Ybarra, and her brothers Roberto Hernandez and Pedro Gomez. Her legacy lives on through her five siblings, four daughters, nine grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.
