Filomeno P.
Alday
November 29, 1933 — May 6, 2025
Clovis
Filomeno P. Alday was born in Samar, Philippines, on November 29, 1933, and entered Heaven on May 6, 2025. Filomeno's life was a testimony to the American Dream and his sacrifice for his family was evident even until his final breath. Filomeno, oldest of five, was only 8 years old in WWII during the Japanese Occupation of the Philippines. He and his family evacuated to the family farm in Samar, where they spent nights sleeping under trees and hiding. His determination to protect his loved ones began from an early age, even when his family didn't have the money to have food on the table. Filomeno tried to enlist in the U.S. Navy, but failed the physical because he was too thin. He then joined the Merchant Marines and served for two years, traveling around the world. While in the Merchant Marines, Filomeno decided he wished to one day live in California. He attended Far Eastern University in Manila, Philippines, but had to leave college when his late father passed away, and Filomeno went to work to take care of his family. During this time, he would visit his former schoolmate from high school and his one love, Alily Velasco, in nursing college for four years. Filomeno and Alily were married on October 5, 1963, and have been married for 61 years. They went on to have three children, Rufi, Leni, and Lex. After having children, Filomeno and Alily wanted their children to have a better life and be educated in the United States, so they migrated to California in 1969. While their children went to school, Filomeno became president of the Filipino Organization in Mountain View and joined the Knights of Columbus. Filomeno also became a Eucharistic Minister of St. Joseph Church in Mountain View. In the Philippines, Filomeno worked for the government at Manila International Airport as a medical attendant and for a publishing company in Quezon City. In the United States, he continued college at San Jose City College and Foothill College in Los Altos.
Filomeno worked in engineering, where he worked for a company that made commercial and industrial lasers in Mountain View. Filomeno retired in 1995 and continued making beautiful memories with his wife, travelling the world together. On April 22, 2006, Filomeno was inducted as a Knights of Columbus 4th Degree and retired in 2013. He also found joy in his two favorite hobbies, fishing and cooking. His grandchildren called it "Lolo's Food." Filomeno is survived by wife, Alily; children and their spouses, Rufi and Susie Alday, Rob and Leni Kearns, Lex and Crystal Alday; grandchildren, Brianna Alday, Nicole Kearns, Caleigh Alday and Caleb Pouliot, Paul and Claudia Nunez, Andrew and MaryAnn Nunez, Raymond and Jeanette Nunez, Christopher and Heather Matthes, Mike and Andrea Basile, Daniel Kingen; great grandchildren, Isaiah Nunez, Ray Ray Nunez, Christoph Matthes, Makenna Kingen, Watson Kingen, Paisley Kingen, and Koah Alday Martinez, brother; Rufino Jr and wife Blessie; sister, Erlinda and husband Abel Garcia and all of his nieces and nephews. His legacy of love and determination for family will live on through his children and grandchildren. Forever a loving husband, father, Lolo, Tito, uncle Ampang, cousin, and friend.
