Obituary

Elodia De La Garza of Fresno was born on November 30, 1934 to Geronimo and Refugia Vargas in Dallas, Texas, which explains why she was a loyal Cowboys fan until the end. Elodia lost her Mother and Father at a very early age and the parental responsibility fell on her older sister Esther Vargas. She had a younger brother named Geronimo Vargas who everyone called Jerry. From Dallas the family moved to Michigan until finally settling in the state of Washington in a small town called Yakima. It was not an easy childhood for her but by the grace of God she overcame many obstacles. She left home in 1952 at 18 and went to East Los Angeles, California and she quickly found a job there. She met her future husband of 13 years, Rudy Bustamante they had 5 children David, Robert, Corine, Leo and Debra. Her second marriage to Rene De La Garza, produced 2 children Paul De La Garza  and Thomas De La Garza. Later her family moved to Phoenix, AZ . Her journey ended in 1981 when she as a single parent moved to Fresno, Ca. She worked various jobs until she found her permanent job at Masten Towers Senior Living where she worked for 20 years making lasting friendships. She also found a home church at Our Lady Of Victory. She was a Lector there for many years and she loved it until time passed and she could no longer attend. She loved God and had a strong faith in Him which she turned to always in times of trouble. In her spare time she loved going to Table Mountain Casino, even towards the end of her life. She loved to dance and listen to her Mexican music. You could hear her in the background hooping and hollering and they would say oh there goes Lodie! She will be missed by all of her family and friends who loved her. Towards the end of her life she lived with her niece Lisa Ortiz who took good care of her until she passed .Elodia is preceded in death by her 2 sons David Bustamante and Paul De La Garza, they are reunited again.1 great-great grandchild Tristan Tellez. She is survived by her remaining children Robert Bustamante and wife Barbara, Corine Cabrera and husband Joseph, Leo Bustamante, Debra Austin and husband Scott, Thomas De La Garza. 20 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren.. many loving nieces and nephews.
