Dominic Martin
Macaranas, Md
August 10, 1967 — June 1, 2026
Fresno
Dominic Macaranas, MD
"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness."
- 2 Timothy 4:7
A loving father, husband, brother, and devoted physician, Dominic Martin Avenido Macaranas went home to the Lord on June 1, 2026.
Dominic was born in Cainta, Philippines on August 10, 1967 to Erlinda and Antonio Macaranas. Driven by his passion for serving others, he earned his medical degree at the Cebu Institute of Medicine in 1993. He immigrated to the U.S. to further his medical training in New York, and later went on to provide medical care to under-resourced communities in Macomb, Illinois.
For the past 16 years, he worked tirelessly as a hospitalist in almost every corner of Central and Northern California — with his wife declaring him the "King of the Valley" — including Fresno, Hanford, Delano, Turlock, Porterville, Redding, Santa Maria, and Sacramento. Serving as Assistant Medical Director and Physician Advisor at Adventist Health Hanford Central Valley Network, he was dedicated to delivering the highest quality of care to his patients and mentoring resident doctors. He was known for his gentle and humble spirit, along with his fierce advocacy for his patients, intelligence, diligence, and efficiency, earning him the nicknames of "Mac Attack" and "Sonic". He remained grounded in his roots and dreamt of returning to the Philippines to provide accessible medical care.
Outside of the hospital, he loved playing and watching basketball, exploring cafes and bookstores with his daughter, scouring Best Buy for the latest gadgets, learning new recipes, and affectionately squeezing the family's two dogs to the point of near explosion. He also enjoyed listening and singing to music by Elton John. Dominic chose not to upstage Sir John's singing career, and instead, used his vocal talents to serenade his family.
He is survived by his wife Jeng, daughter Anjeli, his bichon frise Bella, and his siblings Mary Anne, Gene, Carol, Emily, and Noel. He now joins his family's chihuahua (and second daughter) Chloe in heaven.
In all areas of life, Dominic showed extreme integrity and benevolence — always choosing to place the wellbeing of others before himself. Amidst his health battles, he remained determined to provide for his family and all those around him. Leaving behind a legacy of compassion, selflessness, humility, and care, he now finds eternal rest with Jesus, our Lord and Savior.
