Obituary

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the death of Danny Eugene Call. Danny passed away on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at age 83 surrounded by his family in Clovis, CA. He was born September 23, 1940, to Reverend Howard Call and his wife Stella of Fresno, CA. He spent time on the Northern Coast of California and developed a love for the ocean. When he was 19, he joined the Navy and served during the Congo Uprising. During his time in the service, he loved driving the PT boats up and down the Congo river and was proud to have helped land 1800 Indonesian troops. Danny enjoyed being on the water, fishing often, owning many boats, and being out in the ocean off the northern and central coasts of California whenever he had the chance. He even went on to learn to dive in the deep sea and how to spear fish. He also had a love for anything with wheels and speed. He shared his love of racing with his grandsons, Brett and Cody, and founded "Papa's Racing Team." He loved music and played in a band at Jim's Place in Clovis as the lead vocalist. He later began playing Gospel music in churches all across the Central Valley. He worked in transportation for over 30 years, working for the Teamsters Union, driving long haul trucks to then school bus along with doing maintenance at Mariposa High School. He enjoyed his route through the mountains and living in Yosemite during the school year, before he retired and moved to Auberry in 2005. During retirement he enjoyed restoring vintage cars, building and racing sprint cars, singing with Sons of the King at valley churches, camping at the coast, piddling round in his shop, eating popsicles with his great granddaughters and eating breakfast every morning at the Tollhouse Market and Grill. His love for music, instruments, and singing carried through to his grandchildren as he loved to sing while his granddaughter Erin played the violin.

Danny's greatest love was for the Lord and for his wife and family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Sheila, his children - Denise (Mark) Thornton, Corey (Kerry) Call and Robbie Caire. He also left behind grandchildren - Karle, Brett, Erin, Cody (Drew), Ryan, Josh, and Megan- and his great-grandchildren - Everleigh, Journey, Ruth and one on the way: his sisters Kathleen Jones and Linda (Bill) Davis and many nieces and nephews. He is joined in death with his parents, Reverend Howard and Stella Call, and his brothers Raymond and Albert.
