Charlotte Maschke
July 28, 1924 – May 14, 2025
Charlotte Maschke, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on May 14, 2025, in Fresno, California, at the age of 100.
Born in July 1924 in Heilbronn, Germany, Charlotte was a gifted student who went on to become a teacher in her home country. It was there that she met the love of her life, Adolf Maschke. After marrying, the couple emigrated to the United States, where they proudly became American citizens. Together, they raised two daughters in a home filled with love, culture, and community. Charlotte and Adolf were active members of the local German Club, where they forged lifelong friendships. Their marriage of 43 years was a testament to deep companionship and devotion, ending only with Adolf's passing.
Charlotte embraced life with curiosity and vigor. As a widow, she remained active and engaged—playing bridge, sewing, knitting, crocheting, gardening, and participating in many activities at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church. Ever adaptable, she even took up stationary bike riding to prepare for knee surgery—continuing this routine into her mid-90s.
In 2013, Charlotte moved to The Terraces at San Joaquin Gardens, where she thrived in independent living. She made many dear friends, became a regular at the fitness center, and explored new hobbies such as yoga, origami, card making, and quilling. Her joyful spirit and openness to new experiences made her a vibrant presence in every community she joined.
Charlotte is survived by her daughters, Eva Guenther (Franklin) and Rita Van Cleve (Bill); her grandchildren, Darryl (Miranda), Brian, Mike (Rebecca), and Bobby (Aly); and her great-grandchildren, Alexander and Matthew.
Charlotte was deeply grateful for the many friends who enriched her life—whether through shared heritage, a game of bridge, fellowship at church, or new connections at The Terraces. She often expressed how much their kindness and companionship meant to her. The family also extends heartfelt thanks to the caring staff at The Terraces for their support during her final years.
Charlotte lived with passion, gratitude, and resilience. She encouraged those around her to embrace life fully and joyfully. Her presence will be dearly missed, and her memory will remain a blessing to all who knew her.
