Alene Amelia
Ackland
February 19, 1936 — September 30, 2024
Alene Amelia Ackland, 88 years old, passed away on September 30, 2024, in Fresno, Ca.
Alene was born on February 19, 1936, in Welling, Oklahoma. She spent her early years living on the family farm with her mom and dad, Zora Beatrice and Clarence Leroy Tomlinson.
When Alene was starting school the family moved to Woodward, Oklahoma where she lived with her parents; her brother, Mel; and her sister, Veleta.
Alene realized very early in life that she loved babies and also dreamed of becoming a nurse when she grew up.
Alene's family moved to California in 1952 where she attended Leuzinger High School for her senior year. Immediately after graduating high school, she enrolled in nursing school. Alene graduated nursing school as an RN, or Registered Nurse, in 1957 and started her lifelong career as a dedicated nurse. She worked in every section of the hospital, including work in a mental health facility, but finally decided that the place she loved to work best was the maternity ward where all the babies were. Whenever there was a social gathering you would always see her taking care of someone's baby. I'm pretty sure she didn't know how to eat without a baby on her lap!
Alene ended her 50+ year career working as the Head Supervisor of the San Dimas Hospital.
Alene also found that she had a passion for square dancing. She would get dressed up to the nines in her square-dancing outfits; it was quite a site to see. She spent years square dancing and even attended Big Band dances up until her passing.
She also worked as a volunteer with the San Dimas police department.
She loved heading literally anywhere in her RV and spent her time camping and reading. She loved reading so much that she could easily read two to three books a week.
Alene had three children: Denise, Steve, and Jeff. Unfortunately, she lost her two boys and is now survived by her daughter, Denise and Granddaughter, Shannon.
